About Rotten Tomatoes
Rotten Tomatoes is a film and television review aggregate website launched on August 12, 1998. It was launched by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. The website is the largest online aggregation of critics’ movie and TV show reviews. It provides netizens movie lovers with what is “fresh” and what is “rotten.”
Further, it serves movie and TV lovers with exclusive editorial material on our website and social media, develops fun and instructive video series, and conducts live shows for fans across the country with our “Your Opinion Sucks” live shows.
What is Tomatometer?
A Tomatometer is a measurement of critical reviews a film or television show has accumulated. A movie or television show receives a Tomatometer score after it has garnered at least five reviews.
How it Works:
Fresh red tomato: A red tomato is displayed to indicate the Fresh status of a movie or TV show when at least 60% of the reviews are favorable.
Green plat tomato: When less than 60% of ratings for a film or television show are good, a green splat appears to denote its Rotten status.
Faded tomato: When there is no Tomatometer score recorded, it could be because the title has not yet been announced or there are insufficient ratings to create a score.
